Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I go after surgery and when do I get to leave the Ambulatory Surgery Center?
After your procedure, you are taken back to the Ambulatory Surgery Center and monitored closely until you receive a discharge order. You are discharged after the surgery team agrees that it is safe for you to go home. You may need to wait in the Discharge Lounge until your UMC discharge order comes through. You may also be given a physician referral, if needed.
What if I need a prescription when I leave?
Depending upon your insurance, UMC has a 24-hour pharmacy, which is located across from the hospital’s cafeteria. We honor all major insurance cards for prescriptions. There is also a CVS on the corner of West Charleston Boulevard and Tonopah Drive, right across from the hospital.
Will I need to return for follow-up care?
No, you will be seen by your physician in their office for follow-up care. One to five days after your procedure/surgery, a qualified ambulatory care registered nurse will call you to check on your recovery and ensure you are healing. You’ll cover topics including medication, diet and outpatient rehabilitation.
