Teddy Bear Clinics
When did you figure out what you wanted to be when you grew up? The Healthy Living Institute hopes to encourage local elementary school students to think about careers in health care with our Teddy Bear Clinics. These fun and educational events give young students a hands-on learning opportunity with UMC's clinical team members to gain exposure to different areas of the industry while easing fears about any potential treatments they may have in the future. Each student receives their very own teddy bear that they get to take around to different stations to learn about how different types of injuries and illnesses are treated, and the students get to perform these treatments on their teddy bears! The Healthy Living Institute holds several of these types of events at schools across the valley each year, giving students a lesson (and an adorable patient) they will never forget.
Support for New Mothers
They say it takes a village to raise a child, and the Healthy Living Institute is a valuable ally for new mothers in Southern Nevada. Every woman who gives birth at UMC’s Women and Newborn Care Center receives this complimentary diaper bag filled with items to promote safety and wellness for newborn babies, including:
- A sleep sack to provide safe warmth and movement for newborns while they sleep.
- A book on infant massage techniques to soothe babies.
- An infant CPR education kit (for NICU parents only).
- A folder with information on complimentary resources provided by the Healthy Living Institute, including breastfeeding classes and car seat safety checks.
