Center For Transplantation

The First and Only Transplant Center in Nevada

Since performing Nevada's  first kidney transplant  in 1989, the UMC Center for Transplantation has provided thousands of patients with lifesaving transplants and highly coordinated care. The UMC Center for Transplantation continues to serve as the ONLY transplant center in Nevada.

After transplantation, many people enjoy a better quality of life by being able to return to work, school, hobbies, and family activities. As a result of advances in surgical techniques, post-transplant medications and careful follow-up, organ transplantation is now the most successful treatment choice for many people with kidney diseases.

UMC multidisciplinary transplant team is comprised of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, financial counselors, and living donor coordinators who work together to ensure you receive the highest level of care available.

Become a Living Donor

At the UMC Center for Transplantation, we strive to make the best possible match between a living donor and the transplant recipient. We ask transplant patients to talk to family members and friends about donating a kidney, since most potential donors want their kidney to go to someone they know.

For those interested in donating a kidney:

  • Contact our living donor coordinator at 702-383-2224.
  • Participate in the Living Donor Education Seminar at the Center for Transplantation to learn all about living donor kidney transplants.
  • Obtain a blood test to determine if your blood and tissue types are compatible with the organ recipient.
  • Undergo a thorough medical and psychosocial evaluation to ensure that you are in good health and meet donation criteria.

Several other tests, including detailed imaging of your kidneys, will be performed to ensure that you are in good health and that you meet donation criteria.

The transplant staff will discuss with you and your family the benefits and risks of donating an organ and will answer your questions. After you donate an organ, UMC's Living Donor Program coordinators and other transplant staff members will offer you support and follow-up care for several months after your surgery.
